Nancy Becher is a business mentor and strategist for entrepreneurs with chronic illnesses at Business Success Unlimited. She offers pragmatic business tools and strategies to assist entrepreneurs thrive despite physical and mental limitations.
Why and how did you start your company?
Having been in business for over 35 years, 7 years ago I was in a hit and run car accident which changed everything I did and how I did. I now want to share my experiences and the lessons I learned along the way, as well as give other business owners hope and knowledge that they too can succeed. It took me years, and a lot of perseverance to figure out what tools, systems, automation to implement in order to re-establish that success while still having time to deal with the challenges that emerged as a result of the accident.
What makes your business, service or product special? How does it impact people’s life?
When a person has been successful in their business and then something unexpected happens, they may feel defeated, unworthy, and angry. They may just want to give up. But deep inside, there still remains the same burning embers that they had at the beginning of their business journey. They just need to find the right tools to bring it back to life again. Since I have been there, I understand and can share what I went through. I stay with them through their journey and help them in getting back on their feet.
What have been your biggest success factors?
My podcast has thousands of listeners. I now have over 15,000 Facebook, LinkedIn, and other social media followers, and I’ve been able to reclaim control of my own business. Going from sitting in a dark basement wishing to die to being up and working non-stop with new tools and strategies has been a life-changing experience for me.
What are the biggest challenges you have faced launching and running the company?
The challenges are determining what to do, how to do it, and giving people encouragement without making it appear as if I’m going to “fix them.” People with challenges and disabilities frequently do not want to bring their problems to light, so they do not disclose their difficulties. This limits them and prevents them from seeking help, which means that neither they nor I will grow as I would like.
Which do you think is most important: the right product, the right market, or the right team?
All three are very important. If you don’t offer what people want, or if you haven’t found the right client, it doesn’t matter how good your team is. To be successful, you must have all three.
What are your future plans and aspirations for your company?
I hope to expand my podcast, monetize it, and help at least 10,000 new people get the right tools and systems in place, as well as bring chronic illness business owners the support and recognition they need and deserve from the SBA and other governmental agencies, as well as the non-profits that are in place to help people with disabilities.
Advice for other entrepreneurs who are just started or want to start?
Make a plan, and make sure that plan includes not only ideas, but also how tos, whens, and all the information that will get them from point A to point Z. Then you must be willing to put your plan into action and find the right people to share, learn, and grow with.
